Scenic Gorge Virginia Creek - Glacier National Park

Description
This is a wonderfully well-hidden scenic gorge and waterfall within Glacier National parks vast wilderness. Both I and fellow professional wildlife/nature photographer John Vose had set out to explore the 5.2 miles in and out trail to the spectacular Virgina Falls. We took an unplanned detour to further explore along the way, aware that the flowing waters of Virginia Creek were to the north as the hiking trail cut back in the opposite direction.
Many established wildlife trails were evident, certainly not as trampled as the maintained human trails are. We decided to explore and followed one of the narrow pathways. A smile creased my face ear to ear, looking downward to the soft wet ground beneath my feet absolutely NO signs of human hiking shoes were to be seen! Moose, deer, Elk- bear prints and scat could easily be found. The rush of the flowing creek quickly became evident before long. We simply had no idea what to expect when we arrived. The last few yards were a battle, navigating over and under blown-down mature Hemlock trees and snags can be a challenge.
With just a bit more effort, and a leap out onto this narrow ledge this was the view we could only have dreamed of! This is technically an un-named waterfall, as Virginia Creek continues downhill from the mighty Virginia Falls there are perhaps dozens of spectacular cascades that hikers never will see as they make the trek up to the featured waterfall.
